The Theory and Practice of Yoga

Our program will help refine your personal practice and deepen your understanding of the tradition as a whole. Under the guidance of our resident doctor (and yogi) of osteopathy, you will study functional anatomy to better understand the physiology of the body, the nervous system, and respiration. This section includes an examination of alignment in standing, seated and supine postures and a close look at the special category of inversions. Physical adjustments and how to read bodies are also covered in this section.

Yoga Philosophy and History

You will learn about yoga's rich history and philosophy born in the sutras of Patanjali. Here you will learn the fundamentals of energetic alignment, the chakra system, yoga mythology, Ayurveda, as well as meditation and pranayama.

Teaching Metholdology

This section includes practical teaching and sequence development. You will gain the skills, confidence, and knowledge to lead effective public classes and learn some of the nuances of private instruction. This part of training also discusses the business and ethics side of yoga.

This curriculum meets Yoga Alliance's 200 hr standards. Students receive a certificate of completion which can be used to apply for the RYT-200 status with the Yoga Alliance.

Registered Yoga SchoolChicago School of Yoga teaches vinyasa yoga which blends flow and alignment principles into a fun, challenging, and transformational practice. We believe in the practical application of traditional yoga practices and philosophy.

As a studio, our teaching methods are shaped by the many different teachers that have taught and inspired our own training faculty.
